When I first came up with the idea for this blog I wanted it to encompass all of me and my eclectic interests. I have way too many interests to even dare put a lot of restrictions on myself. Even when these many interests lead to a very overwhelming life.

Most of my research into making a personal website emphasized the need to find a niche and stick to it. “If you had more than one interest you need to make multiple sites,” they all lectured. They said this with the intention of helping you make a profit. While that may be sound advice in the long run, to start, I am just going to let this be whatever it turns out to be… so here goes nothing!

What is in a name?
I chose adastrajess because “ad astra per pulvis” is what was inscribed in my signed copy of Losing the Nobel Prize. I dug the ad astra part. Side note: along with that inscription was what I hope is some sort of rock or mineral taped to the page. It’s probably related to the contents of the book I have yet to read, but for now it remains an ominous mystery to me. Ad astra means “to the stars” in Latin. Per pulvis means “through the dust,” for those who need to know that as well.
However, I wanted to also encompass the variation of my interests since this is a personal blog. I looked up different words in Latin via good ole Google Translate but let’s just say the results didn’t quite roll of the tongue. To the stars through chaos is “ad astra per chaos,” which has a little less moxie than I am going for. Entropy or “entropiam” also didn’t elicit the vibe I wanted to go for either. Alas I kept it simple and went with the wonderful site name you see in the url bar.
Oh dear! oh dear!
This post took so long because it is so hard to start things that will eventually be perceived. Perfectionism is the enemy of productivity. For so long I wanted everything in order before I published anything. After all this time WordPress is still massively unknown to me. But I’m getting to a place where that is okay. (the readers cheer in unison for this display of personal growth)
Then I ran into the hurdle of what to write as my first post. I have many ideas about articles I want to write but which one?? I figure this little explainer one will be a good introduction of what is to come. This structure will probably change but that is a worry for another time.
Before I end this I just want to shout-out the Message to All Friends web series for the title idea. I’m going to choose a word that fits the vibe of the post I am publishing.
Thank you for reading my first blog post! Hope you stick around and that what I write in the future will spark curiosity in your soul.
Embrace the chaos that is existence!
