Revivify: My April 2026 Retrospective

Things that I enjoyed this month:

from DAZED article

The Upstairs Neighbors Podcast: Episode 110

In this episode Dom talked about her dentist bill and the importance of using proper floss (aka not those picks). This inspired me to get more serious about flossing because a $5000 dentist is not an option!

The Artemis II Mission

Oh my goodness!! This mission brought me so much joy! Seeing people like Victor Glover and Christina Koch and the women in mission control reinvigorated my feeling that I can be a person that does STEM related things. This is especially important due to how traumatized I was by my academic experience during my undergraduate years. I got my STEM spark back and I think that is pretty cool 🙂 Also I got a NASA badge on twitch is fun!

Project Hail Mary

Continuing with my reintroduction to space related things, I watched this movie in April. I would give it five stars!! Amaze amaze amaze! Every new thing I learn about Ryan Gosling makes me understand my college roommates love for him. I was enamored with the science of this movie since biology is a science that I am less experienced and familiar with. The absolute curiosity that Grace displayed when troubleshooting different unthinkable situations was so inspiring to witness. His creating a program to solve the language barrier between him and Rocky was especially cool to me. I aspire to have that level of problem solving prowess.

The Cal Hooper Trilogy

In April, I read the last two books of the Cal Hooper Trilogy by Tana French. I first encountered Tana French’s writing back in 2021 when I began reading her Dublin Murder Squad series. I knew then that she was an author who I’d keep reading. I think what reeled me in was the mystery as well as the setting of her books.

These last two books were enjoyable reads. I have somewhat mixed feelings about the second book, The Hunter. This is due to how everything felt like one massive chess game where eight people were trying to use the same pieces. I ultimately choose to view this as funny instead of frustrating.

The third book was good as well. The part that stuck with me most from that book was when the women of the town stopped by Lena’s house to show solidarity with her so she wouldn’t be bullied by one of the antagonists. I think I value the idea that even after all that distancing people can still form a community when there is a common goal or enemy.

News Tower the game

I spent countless hours of April grinding this game and made the decision to uninstall it before it fully takes over all of my free time. Of course this was after I beat both rival newspapers. I hope to re-download it once there’s more content so I can complete the mafia and high society timeline.
